Music festivals are awesome…generally speaking. Many today are starting to lose their appeal by trying to cater to everyone’s musical tastes, instead of promoting their core and/or original themes. One of the most obvious face palms is the ubiquitous “Jazzfest” that now is overrun by top-40 artists. Yeah, we get it; festival promoters sell tickets and they are trying to sell as many as possible. However, these imposter fests are nothing more than a bunch of radio friendly acts that sound terrible live (hint–try to avoid those, unless you like wandering around with a bunch of people that are there for the “scene” instead of the music). With that in mind, we’ve come up with ten solid music festivals that continue to have great musical integrity to put on your list for 2019 and beyond.
- New Orleans Jazzfest (New Orleans, LA)
- North Sea Jazzfest (Rotterdam, NL)
- Jazzaldia (San Sebastian, ESP)
- High Sierra Fest (Tahoe, CA)
- Montreal Jazzfest (Montreal, CAN)
- Telluride Jazzfest (Telluride, CO)
- Moab Music Festival (Moab, UT)
- Umbria Jazz Festival (Umbria, IT)
- Guiness Cork Jazz (Cork, IRL)
- Newport Jazz Festival (Newport, RI)
There ya go! I’ll leave the subjective part of the research up to you, but if you’re a true music fan, don’t miss these!
