So much has transpired in the last few weeks for everyone that sometimes we lose sight of the trees from the forest. One of these mighty redwoods was a pianist named McCoy Tyner. Personally, probably my favorite jazz piano player of all time; I’m sure many share the same opinion. This legendary jazz figure recently passed away at the soulful age of 81. His works, his legacy, his incredible harmonic intelligence will be remembered by many. His recordings will live on in defiance of the reaper for perhaps eternity, if we are lucky. The names of the legends that he has performed with is too long to list, but his start with Coltrane cemented him into the jazz hall of fame forever. For those that don’t know who “The Real McCoy” is, I urge you to seek out his many recordings, open your ears and enjoy life while you still can.
