R.I.P. Chris Squire

No Comments Uncategorized

This is a very sad day for Yes fans, bass guitarists, and me personally.  I am a HUGE fan of both Yes and Chris Squire–the two were inseparable in my mind.  He looked to be about eight feet tall on stage, towering over little Jon Anderson while he jammed away on his Rickenbacker bass guitar.  Chris always exhibited an incredible charisma when he performed and he handled the bass like it was a child’s play thing.  His command of music was unquestionable every time he graced the stage.  Did I mention that he could sing too?

I have bootlegs upon bootlegs of amazing live Yes shows, and the consistency of the performances is always there.  As a musician, I can relate to how hard it is to have your band sound that good all the time.  I know that Mr. Squire had a lot to do with this.  I’ve also been privileged to see Yes many times over the years, in different formats, with different personnel; however, I never saw a Yes show without Chris Squire!  He was truly a giant in the world of progressive rock and bass guitar.  He will be sorely missed!
