This post is a little OT but nevertheless important to us as rescue owners. If you’re seriously thinking about adding a new animal to your life, please consider adopting a rescue. You’ll be saving a life in the process.
To think that someone wouldn’t want this lovely creature (pictured)…but sadly, it happens. In her particular case, “mom” had a litter of eight and her owner couldn’t keep them. The spay argument notwithstanding, this is status quo for a lot of dogs and their respective owners when the mom gives birth unexpectedly. Unfortunately, many of these little lovelies end up in a kill shelter. It’s hard to believe, but it happens all too often.
There are generally many rescue agencies in your neck of the woods, with all kinds of breeds. When getting ready to adopt, it’s fun to peruse the pictures and posts of new animals, and you can always set up an in person visit. We think it’s great that organizations like these exist and are so focused on getting these animals adopted, but don’t forget about your local Dumb Friends League or municipal shelter either. Please do your part to consider rescue animals when looking and be sure to let others know about these little guys and girls!
