Devon Kurzweil, one of Luxuryville’s most veteran, prolific writers has been crafting music for over three decades.  Whether in the studio or on stage, he brings a refined blend of thoughtful phrasing, hearty technical skills and immense creativity that give his productions and performances an integrity that is obvious from the get go.  He focuses on originality above everything else and is always striving to bring something new into our illusive reality.

Over the years he has experienced it all–from the smallest, coziest bar venues to the largest festival stages in the country, in every arrangement from jazz duos and trios to large big bands and musical ensembles. He has performed and collaborated with some notable players….musicians who have won Grammys; musicians who have toured the world and musicians that have been on a myriad of authentic productions from a who’s who of famous artists.  Along the way he takes time out to write, create, teach, promote live music and occasionally blog about his musical experiences.  After all, the musical journey is one of the the best paths in life to traverse!

Kurzweil is now resigned to the local East Coast music scene, performing with a handful of groups around 80-100 dates per year.  Of note, Algorhythm Trio and The Organization are two of his favs, allowing him to express his musical desires in everything from soulful, old-school organ jazz vibes, to more modern, angular, complex jazz-rock fusion and funk.  He consistently brings a diverse set list to his performances–showcasing an extensive catalog of music over many decades–and vows to never play the same set twice.

He is in the process of releasing his second solo album (& twenty-first work), East of Nowhere.  The album is a collective of delightful jazz works that delve into various sub-genres, including funk, modern, smooth and latin.  The material is thoughtful, creative and energetic; it takes the listener on a holiday travel through well-crafted melodies, comforting harmonic audio production and of course, tasty guitar solos.  The album also features some incredible local players–Cole Sipe (from Everything Yes) on bass; Grant Osborne (from The Organization) on piano and Greg Santa Croce on organ.  All the players really shine throughout the work and each have nice individual places to demonstrate their awesome skills.  East of Nowhere showcases some of Kurzweil’s best guitar playing to date, a fitting stamp for the now five decade tenured astronaut.
